Supporting the Symphony Strengthens the Arts for All

In last month’s article, I spoke about how collaboration among arts organizations enriches the cultural fabric of our community. This month, I’d like to highlight a timely example of that truth in action: our Mid-Columbia Symphony Orchestra.
Â
As we discussed last month, collaboration multiplies the impact of the arts. The Symphony is a clear example: its programs and partnerships demonstrate how working together allows organizations to reach more students, engage wider audiences, and create experiences that no single group could achieve alone.
Â
A symphony is more than a cultural asset; it signals that a community values creativity, collaboration, and excellence. Beyond the concert stage, the Mid-Columbia Symphony enriches schools through education programs, contributes to the local economy, and partners with other arts organizations across the region. Many of its musicians also hold other jobs or pursue careers outside of performing, sometimes teaching and mentoring students, while also raising families, paying taxes, and actively participating in community life, ensuring that the Symphony’s impact extends far beyond its performances.
Â
Like many arts organizations, the Symphony is facing financial realities that have required them to reduce the number of their concerts this season. In addition, their search for a new conductor — a leadership role central to shaping both artistic vision and community engagement — has been placed on hold. These steps are intended as a temporary measure, and with additional community support, the Symphony can return to a full schedule and continue building on its important contributions.
Â
The Symphony is one of our five partner organizations, and we work together to expand opportunities and strengthen the cultural fabric of our area. At the same time, we are collectively part of a much wider creative community, whose members all add value in unique ways. Supporting any organization uplifts the entire network of arts and cultural programs in our region.
Â
Every ticket purchased, every donation made, and every word of encouragement helps the Symphony move closer to restoring a full schedule, allowing them to continue contributing to our arts and culture ecosystem and supporting the programs, collaborations, and experiences that enrich our community. Supporting the Symphony is an investment in all of us — together, we can safeguard the arts, nurture creativity, and ensure a vibrant, culturally rich future for everyone.
